Getting started on for mobile

Open up the app, then choose "Use custom server options".

Note that places you need to press are highlighted in red

Enter as the Home Server URL.

Next, enter your username and password and press "Log in". Do not use your email or phone number! For security reasons we do not tie accounts with emails or phone numbers, so you will not be able to use them to login.

Once you are logged in, you will be asked if you want to send analytic information to Riot. You can do this or not.

On the home screen, press the icon in the lower right corner.

This shows you the communities you are in.

Press the community you are a part of.

Press on "Rooms" in the upper right to view the community's rooms.

Press on a room to join it.

Press "Join room" and you're in!

If the room is encrypted, you will not be able to see past messages and may get something like this:

You'll be able to see new messages, so don't worry!

When you send an encrypted message, you will be asked to verify devices in the room.

You can generally go ahead and press "send anyway" without verifying the devices. If security is of the utmost importance, you may want to verify devices, however as a rule of thumb this isn't needed. It will make this message stop appearing!

Lastly, there is a room dedicated to answering questions on how to use Riot.

To join, press # in the lower right of the screen.

Then, press the name of the room to join (in this case, "Riot Help").

That's it! If you have any other questions, please enter the Riot Help room and ask away.
